Monday in Belize

Here it is Monday and I am just now reporting about Monday's events! It has been a whirlwind of activities these past couple of days!

On Monday the construction crew headed to the village of San Marcos along with one of the teaching teams. The construction crew got off to a slow start because the needed to mortar up some concrete blocks and only had one trowel and one hammer! A group of students from Marquette University were working on the site as well. You really need to see pictures to appreciate that the samd for the concrete has to be sifted by hand through large frames covered with screening.
More tools were delivered by new, they were brand new and then the construction crew got rolling! They have about four rows of bricks put in place.
The teachers, Anita, Cathy, Peggy and Jack were aided by Leslie all day and taught the Health and Hygiene lessons and got the pictures taken of all 235 students! Quite a task.
Three teachers went to San Miguel, Father Don, Shannon and Ann. They discovered that the school is in three separate buildings and one is up the hill! When they walked in the three year old pre-school several of the children cried! They found out today that is because they were wearing scrubs and the children were afraid that they were there to give them shots!
Conde, Steph and Joan workd in Silver Creek. They noted that the children seem very advanced and about 3/4 of them seem to practice good tooth hygiene already. The principal seems to really push the children.

We were glad to see that the Alcade (Mayor) of each village stopped in to speak with the children at each school.
Again, we're great! Headed off to a night of Garifuna dancing at St Peter Claver Parish,
More tomorrow!
